Windows 98 and Windows 2000?

W

what now?

Hi All,

I asked this before but I will try a different method. Any help is greatly
appreciated. I don't have anything but my registered version of Win98SE and
Windows 2000Pro. I have installed Windows 2000Pro into fat on a partition of
8gig which is C:\. I have a D:/ with 12Gig that I want to use for my kids
games which are older. It is formatted to Fat as well. What is my best
method of dual boot as I don't have Partition Magic or anything else. If you
have a Step-by-Step method, I will consider you a God. Others have shown me
some great ways, but I don't have third party software as I mentioned.

Sorry for sounding like such a novice, but I really am.

Thanks,
Sam

You have to install Win 98 first on C. Once you've done that, install Win 2K
on D by simply putting the W2K CD in your CDROM and following the
directions. You cannot do it the other way round.

You might get some respondents claiming that you must install
Win98 first. Ignore them - do this instead:

1. Boot your PC with your Win98 CD.
2. Install Win98, making sure that it goes to drive D:.
3. Reboot the machine into a DOS prompt (press F8 at boot time).
4. Get a copy of bootpart.exe from here:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm
5. Run this command:
bootpart win95 c:\Win98.sys "Windows 98"
This will create a Win98 boot sector file. It will also
insert a new Win98 boot menu line into c:\boot.ini.
6. Run this command:
bootpart winnt boot:c:
This will restore the Win2000 boot ability.

That's all!

what now?

I installed Win98 as suggested. It is so far showing me that I need
vnetbios.vxd and to press any key to continue. When I try to run the
Internet, I as well get an error that says it has performed an illegal
operation and the title shows Msoobe. Am I out of luck and have done
something wrong. I have not performed the commands yet that you have
requested. The reason I was trying to get onto the internet, was to download
my Nvidia drivers as I can't get past 16 colours.

Thanks,
Sam

The same can be achieved using a documented
process in Command Console mode.

If you now have Win98 problems then you have to resolve
them in a Win98 newsgroup.

Got everything up and going. I appreciate your assistance and the ease that
you made for me. Very well done.

Thanks,
Sam
