How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard
Disk
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;255867

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition FAT32.
4. Install your desired Operating System.

Greetings

To remove XP
Simply format the hard drive

To format your hard drive:
You will need a bootable disk

If your 95 CD does not come with a boot disk
Goto http://www.bootdisk.com/ and grab one

Once you have booted from the floppy and the CD drivers loaded, on the dos
screen run fdisk and delete the partitions. This is because your NTFS drive
cannot be seen by the 95 install routine.

Once that is done reboot

then run setup from the cd rom drive, which should be assigned a drive
letter.

PS the steps until the point you run fdisk are non-destructive. Once you
have run f-disk, there is no os on your computer.

I cannot recall but you might also want to partition the drive cause if i
recall properly, 95 will not be able to see large partitions.

Hopefully others will add to this somewhat sketchy description. Good Luck

you can use vwmare www.vmware.com
or
Virtual PC http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx
(this has a 45 day trial)

to run windows 95 ontop of xp, so you wont have to format xp.

I use vmware to run various platforms on top of XP.

This is a better option becuase if you try to install win95 on a new
computer you might run into compatibility issues since your harware will be
new.

Google for delpart.exe. This NT utitlity works in DOS to delete NTFS partitions.
Links usually have details about how to use and where to download from.

You would have to repartition the disk. And you would find that Win95
would restrict you to a 2GB section of a modern large disk, and might
well not have support for all the hardware (most especially for the
video card). So this needs a hard think.

I think rather than remove XP I would use a partitioning tool, like
Partition Magic 8, to resize the partition with XP on it, leaving a 1 or
2GB of space in front onto which to make a FAT 16 partition for the 95.
Then use the Boot Magic that comes along with Partition Magic to choose
which of the two systems to boot to.
