Windows 7

Hi all!

I just installed Windows 7 beta under Virtual PC 2007. It's telling me that
I have no audio devices. I assume it needs drivers. I have an HP notebook
but the HP site does not have any drivers for Windows 7. I would like to
find the proper newsgroup or tech group for Windows 7. I know it has been
mentioned here in the past. Does anyone know the URL or newsgroup? I've
been to the Italian newsgroup, but unfortunately, I don't speak Italian.

Thanks,

Tyro

WTF did you go to an Italian NG if you don't speak Italian???
Stick in some Vista drivers....worked for me.

Hi,

Did you check to see if sound was available in the virtual machine? Likely
it is not as the emulated card is an older ISA type that is probably not
supported in Win7 as it is not supported in Vista either.

As you're running it in VPC, you don't need the HP drivers you need to
use the ones for the virtual sound card. First, check that the sound
card is enabled in the VPC options (it's just a check box with no
settings).

Lots of people have the exact same problem, and there seem to be 2
fixes:

http://www.w7forums.com/no-sound-windows-7-a-t53.html

a) Use Windows Update to get the latest driver for Virtual PC Sound
(this worked for me and many others).
b) If that fails, try restarting the service listed in the link above.

Virtual Machine software uses generic drivers they are not supplied with any
Windows operating system; whichever Virtual Machine you are using should
install its own audio drivers by default.

The Windows 7 newsgroup is available at this URL:

They don't want to 'moderate out the bad press' bad publicity can be just as
rewarding to a company as good publicity; however there are a certain
faction that use the newsgroups for their own personal rants and
gratification, they are offensive and even, in some cases use totally
libelous language against other users. While I agree with freedom of speech
I do not agree that you should call a person every derogatory name under the
sun and be able to get away with it. Any person in their right mind would be
of the same opinion. Any one can poke fun at someone providing, if that fun
turns out to be offensive, derogatory and/or libelous, they are prepared to
suffer the consequences.

Regardless of what the general populace think moderators are also governed
by a set of strict rules. It is not simply a case of 'Oh i don't like this
person so I'll ban him/her from posting on this forum.' If it was that easy
half the monitored newsgroups would have nothing in them.

We can all say our piece but it is not fun when 'you' happen to be the butt
end of the joke. Yes, you may turn the other cheek for a while, but the
comes a point when you will take no more. Just because you are on a
newsgroup using a false name etc doesn't give you immunity. That false name
keeps you safe from other users in the newsgroup, it does not keep you safe
from the law. Any law enforcement agency can easily track you down, all it
takes is a court order.

Moderators are there to make sure users stick to the rules, they are not
heavy handed net cops.

Yep, just slumming it to see if any progress was made with Vista performance
problems. Looks like no progress.

Unbelievable.

And how offensive to any rational, thinking person.

They're just typed letters on a screen.

The continued wussification of America, and the world.

Typed letters on paper:

The Constitution of the United States
100 dollar bills
A court order
A love note

How would you react if you got home and found a piece of paper shoved
under the door with the following typed on it: "I am going to kill you"?

Get the point, moron?

But MS net cops posts here (ms news server) they don't like,
regardless of truth. Their rule must be "reflects unfavorably on MS".

MS allegedly has made some major performance improvements in SP3. They
named that service pack the same as this thread.

They may be typed letter on a screen but to all intent and purpose the
'comments' are 'published' and as such if defamatory are governed by the law
of the individual country. Defamatory comments kept to oneself doesn't break
the law, speak those defamatory comment to another person and it become
Slander. Write them in a letter or email or publish them on TV or in a
newspaper and it becomes Libel. Using a newsgroup you are publishing to
millions of people facts that may or may not be true. If they are true then,
should a libel case be brought against a person, the court will more than
likely lean in your favour. If they are not true then the court will lean
towards the plaintiff.
