Windows 7 Beta Customer Preview

Great--I'll look at that reference later. I have some sound issues under
Windows 7 running on the hardware--regular dropped stuff--a second or so of
silence every 20, maybe--haven't gotten around to timing it yet.

And my laptop still won't work in normal mode. It does work in safe mode
with networking, which is a start, but I'm going to have to use MSCONFIG and
slog through some triaging of third-party stuff to see what is blowing it
up.

I got it to work after the first reboot
are you running sp1? I am told windows 7 works better if you use vp 2007 sp1

No, I didn't know at the time that 'Vista' was recommended - I selected
'Other'. Maybe I have to restart the whole thing...? (I need the
additions, otherwise I cannot share the host C: drive.)

And yes, I use Virtual PC 2007 SP1 - you wouldn't catch me dead with any
old software on my computers... :)

go into the newsgroup
Microsoft communities
microsoft.public.virtualpc
others had the same problem as you and someone there showed them what to do
without having to reload the OS again
I just cannot find the post because I refreshed the headers

I have reinstalled it completely; this time specifying 'Vista'. It was a
cleaner and quicker install than the first time, as I have made some
minor mistakes the first time around.

The VM Additions would still not install, but THIS TIME I read the
pop-up completely, then followed the instructions (to open the virtual
CD/DVD from Explorer, then run setup). This successfully installed the
additions, although in Japanese - I don't know why...

I down loaded Windows 7_64bit & 32bit with no trouble, and put them on a
DVD. I did a clean install which is better than an upgrade install. Clean
took 1/2 hour, upgrade took 2.5hr. Clean is better. All my printers 2,
scanners 1, and drivers all work or was downloaded by Windows 7. I do like
7..

The version of IE in Windows 7 is rather different from either the public
preview of IE8 or the very soon to come second release thereof--not sure
what it is called--maybe a release candidate. I find it pretty
problematic --opening a new tab as a result of clicking on a link in tab 1
often results in either the last tab falling off and being recovered, or all
tabs needing to be recovered, and usually unsuccessfully.

We'll need to be running IE8 on Vista or XP to get the best picture of what
it will be like for a bit. Otherwise, I like Windows 7 very much. There
are some major changes in the printing area which I don't understand fully
yet, but they seem to have handled my collection of printers both at work
and home successfully .

I don't know.

If I were trying to do this, I would open accessories, right click command
prompt and choose run as administrator.

In the resultant command window, I would try the Route Add command, adding
the -p switch to make it persistent.
