As I recall, and it's been a while so take this with a grain of salt,
back up what you want to keep, format c:\ then reinstall 2k or back up
then throw in the cd and reboot and do a reinstall. MS doesnt seem to
want to do downgrades.

First, why in the world would you want to do that?

In order to install Win2000 you will have to completely remove XP
first, then boot the machine with the Win2000 CD and follow the
prompts. You can not install Win2000 while XP is on the machine, it
won't let you do it.

Sorry, there's no way to do this. You'll have to do a clean
installation of Windows 2000.
