Windows 2003 Standard and Exchange 2003 Standard

I have a server that is practically brand new and it has Win 2003 standard
with exchange 2003 standard.
I was told to upgrade my Windows 2003 standard edition to Windows 2003
Advanced server because of the great benefits I would receive with it. Does
anyone know what benefits I would get ? Also, is the upgrade as simple as
putting in the Windows 2003 advanced server cd and just upgrade to it or is
there more to it ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Morley

Yes, you can put the CD in and upgrade it. Main benefits are, and not sure
if you will benefit from them, is that Windows 2003 Enterprise can handle 8
CPUs with 32 gigs of RAM on an i386, and it also offers Clustering. Standard
offers 4 cpus with 4 gigs of RAM. Read about the differences:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/overview/default.mspx

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/sysreqs/default.mspx

If you need any of these benefits go for it, otherwise, it may be overkill
for your needs.

Not sure if you are after clustering, but if you are going to use clustering
for Exchange, then Exchange must be uninstalled off this machine, install
another machine, setup your clustering resources, then install Exchange on
one machine then the next so Exchange installs it's clustering version of
itself.

Er, unless it has changed from Windows 2000, there is no "upgrade" path from
Windows Standard to Advanced (Enterprise in this case). The upgrade path is
format and reinstall.

Plus also do not forget that if you change it to advance
and cluster it you can not do a exchange DR recovery so
make sure you need to cluster as it becomes a pain to DR
it,
