I've a Windows 2003 server std machine that is an Exchange 2003 Server machine.
It works fine until yesterday when i've executed Windows Update from start menu.
There was about 17 critical update and i've installed all.
At the end of the process I've restarted the system and, without seeing if the restart works fine, I've called my girlfriend and we are going to the sea...
But today I've noted that the exchange server 2003 machine don't work.
Then I comeback to the server room and I see that the server was with all the screen black and don't work.
Just I've restarted the server and noted that the server attempt to start but few second avter the windows logo appear it restarts and this behaviour continue indefinitly.
I've tried all option in the F8 menu but the behaviour is the same.
The question is: is there any way to resolve the problem without reformatting all?
If the problems are the critical update installed can I disinstall them in any way?
Thanks you.
Cosimo MERCURO.
P.S I've installed at the same time all critical updates an other two machine (a domain controller and ISA Server 2000 machine) but all works without problems.

Some of these 'updates' refer to security problems regarding
virus attacks, of which even Microsoft has been vulnerable, see
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/topics/virus/vihotfix.mspx
and seeing the large number of people in the microsoft.public.win2000.*
newsgroups, who have problems AFTER loading them, you should
only download those that you need and only install them after doing
system backups. That is just common sense. The fact that you have
installed them on two other machines with no problems - maybe
simply that these systems didn't need them in the first place.

On the Microsoft site each update is listed with a description (although
I can't find it right now) which discussed the risks and in many cases
offered alternatives e.g. a firewall, in the case of online security.

I'm not running any servers, just Win2K Pro plus SP4(on CD) - and not
even one update, in fact, the service is disabled - and a robust firewall.
