Windows 2000 - version change

My windows 2000 shows version 5 - my software needs Nt-
version 4 - can 2000 be altered to think it is version 4
through the registry - i have been told this is possible.

Please help

Have you considered application compatibility mode?

From the "Run" box
regsvr32 %windir%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll
to enable application compatibility mode.
