Does the update installation disk contain the driver and
other files called for when installing new hardware? I
plan to update 98SE and my current installation disk
apparently is not a full version because when tryng to
install a USB mouse, for example, it can't find the files
on my 98SE installation disk that it is supposed to find.
I also noticed that when I tried to install a backup
utility from this disk, it did not have it. So I am
wondering if these files will be on a 2000 update version
or whether I need the new install version of 2000.

Do a clean installation of Win2000. You will end up with
a far more stable and robust operating system.

One of the first things to do is to verify compatibility with your existing
hardware and software. Review this article for details, specifically the section
titled, "Run the Upgrade Report". This report will list any known software and
hardware issues, whether you intent to perform an upgrade of the exisitn OS or
clean install of Windows 2000 Pro.

"Does the update installation disk contain the driver and other files called for when installing new hardware?" - maybe maybe not.

There is no difference in the Windows 2000 update amd the Windows 2000 Full version CD-ROMs. You can install the update version without haveing the Windows 98 SE installed. When asked for a qualifying product you remove the update CD-ROM and put in the Windows 98 CD-ROM. That will qualify and you go back to the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.

There is no functional difference between the "Full Install" version and the
"Update" version.
