Hi there!
My Windows 2000 has suddenly started to freeze. Also the
startup time to boot is also very long.

I use Zonealarm(basic) as my firewall & use Norton as my
virus protector.

Any recommendation of tools/methods will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance MVPs.

I noticed the same thing when using ZA that your PC is slow
to boot, which is normal because ZA is starting is True
Vector service which takes a while depending on how many
applications are starting up. If you're experiencing
performance problems try using Task Manager to see whether
there might be an application that is using up a lot of
resources such as CPU time. Also, you might have NAV set to
perform virus scans during active hours in which case it
might use up a lot of resources as well.

Thanks Bruce for the response.

I have been using Zonealarm and NAV for a long time
together on my Windows 2000 (Pro) m/c. Also there is no
scheduling. This is a very recent activity.

Where can I find the list of standard processes that run
when the PC starts? I can then start looking at the
otherprocesses.

Thanks again.

In W2k, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft
\Windows \CurrentVersion \Run. This is where you'll find
the programs that start with Windows.
