Windows 2000 Professional (shut down)

Somehow I have acquired a problem when shutting windows
down. I click on shut off and it goes thru the routine,
but my computer does not shut off and there is a flashing
cursor on the desktop. Only way I know to shut the
computer off is by the on/off button on the computer. Can
someone please help me out with this problem?

When it shuts down to a blinking cursor and black screen, your problem is
likely a device driver or device is not responding to the shutdown command.
The usual culprit is the video driver, but it could be any device you've
added or device driver you've updated since the problem started occurring.

Thanks for your reply. How do I check the video driver or any other drivers to see if they are working properly and what do I do about it if they are not
