Windows 2000 Pro > XP PRO

Hello,

I am currently using the Abit IT7 motherboard, (Phoenix Award BIOS V6.00PG).

I wanted to simply upgrade my existing Windows 2000 Pro to XP PRO and everything went to hell. I went through the step-by-step upgrade install and when it was finished it brought me to a blue-screen saying
'A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer' PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It says, if the problem continues, disable any new hardware or software and to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing and to re-boot in SAFE Mode.

Technical Information:
Stop: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFE8, 0x00000001, 0x804E9D8E, 0x00000000)

I have unplugged all my hardware except for my mouse, keyboard and OS Hardrive. I swapped video cards to see if that was the problem, but that didn't work either, I can't even boot into the OS in SAFE Mode. I am getting to the point of not knowing what else to do, if anyone there has any answers, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Tom

Backup your data and try a clean install of Windows XP.

Dave,

I'm having almost the exact same problem as the original poster-- I
also can't access my XP operating system since the failed install? So
how can I backup my data, since I can't even get into XP?

I'm getting desperate here.

Thank you.

You can either recover your data from a parallel install or this link may
help. http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfsdos.shtml
