windows 2000 pro start up

Need help, windows 2000 pro wont start. I get error
message saying file missing or corrupt. \WINNT\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG\SYSTEMced
do not have emergency repair disc.
have full 2000 disc but still seem to have to lose data?
Help?/

If you can boot from your Windows 2000 CD, I seem to remember that there is
an option to repair an existing installation of Windows. Have you tried
that?

There is a knowledge base article on this error (I've had it before). Basically, from what I understand this happens because the registry has become too large (due to some program writing to the registry, in my case it was an older version of NAV)> you must boot into repair mode from the recovery console and copy the old registry files from the C:\winnt\system32\repair directory into the config directory. Look up that error in the KB and you'll find more detail.
