windows 2000 pro losing user accounts

Richard

Hello All,

I am at a loss to figure out what the heck is going on. I
have a win2kpro machine with fresh image. I am joining it
to a nt4 server domain. we have approx. 65 machines in
use with about 25 of them being windows 2k pro that I have
setup myself with no problems except one other doing the
same thing as described below but it ended up fixing
itself. I joined it to the domain added user accounts
from the domain to the box then I restart for whatever
reason and it all of a sudden loses trust with the domain
the accounts I added are gone. I go to system properties
then the advanced tab and there is the pc account admin
account and another account "unknown" I delete the
unknown account and usually I can then log onto the system
with one of the missing accounts. Anyone else have this
problem???

Thanks,
Richard

You cannot "add domain accounts" to a workstation -- it just
doesn't work that way.

Losing "trust" (or connection) with the domain controllers will
however make the machine unable to USE the accounts from
the domain.

Most likely is Name Resolution problems. Do you have more
than one subnet? XP would LIKE to use DNS but can use
NetBIOS (most of the time) to find the DCs.

Make sure you didn't disable NetBIOS (WINS tab of NIC.)

Those (sound like the) are workstation accounts which are UNRELATED
to domain accounts EVEN IF they happen to have the same names.
