windows 2000 or XP for ATI 9500 PRO

Hi all,
First let me thank everyone for helping me out
the other day with my win 98 to XP upgrade question.

One more question for the group...

Should I consider windows 2000 instead of XP as an
upgrade path from windows 98? I guess it is just
a personal thing, but the activation required from
Microsoft rubs me the wrong way.

Is the ATI 9500 Pro compatable with Win 2000?

I will be using the computer for office work, games,
and general everyday stuff.

The ram will arrive today, so i need to decide soon.

Epox EP-8RDA+ motherboard
512 megs ram
AMD XP2500+ Barton
80 gig maxtor 7200 rpm
ATI 9500 PRo
liteOn cd burner

Thanks for all your help.

2000 is great as an office or development playform but it has a lot of
compatability problems with games and multimedia, so I would really
recommend going with XP. It is easily the best (I'm not saying good!) OS
that M$ have ever produced.

Thanks again everyone for the help.
I decided to do Windows XP, I still don't
like the activation,but.....

I also switched to the classic after a short time.
what a gooey mess! ;)

Everthing works ok so far, I did have to fight
me Kyocera FS1000+ for 2 days to get it to work,
but I finally got it!

XP had installed postscript drivers, and did not
include the normal drivers for this printer. After
switching drivers it still did not work, and a 2 hour
tech support call to Kyocera almost ended up in failure.
Just befor we called it quits, I decided to try another
printer cable... can you fing believe that was it!!!!!

I replaced a BELKN cable with another, same style, part number,
everything.... somehow it worked. I could almost hear the
tech guy from Kyocera banging his head on the table! ;)

He was very helpfull and give Kyocera Mita a thumbs up!
Best printer I ever had by the way!

The latest service pack (SP3) for Win2000, a free download,

Oops. I see that SP4 for Win2000 was just released
yesterday. Still a free download, of course. It's 129 MB, so
if you're using a 56K dial-up you may prefer to buy it on CD
from Microsoft, if you do opt for Win2000:

Haven't had any issues with my Win2K unit... "games and multimedia" no
issues noted... If the application is properly coded for Win32, XP or 2K is
not an problem... I don't do much "office" items, but "development" is
pretty much the same between XP and 2K.

Something you might want to review... If you're running Win2K, XP isn't a
step forward. If you're still in the Win9x world, it's about time to move up
to XP.
