I have Windows 2000, and usually when i started up the computer you didnt
need to type in a username and password. After i did a scandisk it asked for
my password with the username : administrator i dont know the password,
and i dont know how to sign in as guest. if someone could help me out that'd
be great. also if you know what to do, how do i make it so i never need a
password or username again.

Windows 2000 is a reasonably secure operating system.
It required you to specify a password for the Administrator
account when you first loaded it. On subsequent occasions
you were able to log in without a password, because you
told Windows to use that same password each time. It's
like leaving the key in the lock - but you still have a lock!
If you could simply sign in as "Guest" then there would be
no security at all - it would be the same as removing every
lock from your house!

What's the solution?

a) Plan ahead. Apply the same methods as you apply to
your car: Since you have at least two sets of keys for your
car, you must also have at least two admin accounts for
Windows. Anything else is shortsighted. Lock the
name/password for the second account away so that
you never again fall into this trap.

b) Reset the password: Boot the machine with a disk
from here. It's scary but it works.

c) Log on without entering a password each time:
Control Panel / Users / Users must specify a password
when logging on.
