Why do some file names display in blue type? They haven't
always been that way.

Bercause you have this turned on:

Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View | Display compressed files and folders with alternate color. The alternate color is #0000FF (Blue).

They are compressed folders/files. It's either an automatic thing where you
might have setup a drive as compressed and thus all subfolder and files get
compressed automatically too.

Greetings --

By design, Win2K automatically compresses files that do not get
used frequently, and, if you've left the default settings intact,
displays those files in blue.
