Hello, I have just added some new memory to a windows 2000 system
which was running fine without any problems. I upgraded from 256 to
512 taking out the old memory and putting in two 256 strips. I now
keep getting a mesage saying The driver disabled the write cache on
device\hardisk0. I have also noticed that 1 minute after there is an
eventlog that says The previous system shutdown at: i.e. 13:00. I have
read the microsoft article on write cache enabled property but this
does not say anything about an unexpected shut down of the server. I
am wondering if there is a problem with the memory cache and windows
is reporting this as harddisk instead by mistake. I have this problem
on two servers and the upgrade was done with two diferent makes of
memory. One make of memory in each server. All my other server i.e. 20
of them are ok but they have not had an upgrade yet. Can anybody shed
any light on this problem. Thnaks.

If no BSOD's occur (Event ID: 1001 Source: Save Dump), then it may be a
power problem. I would look at a possible faulty (or undersized) pc power
supply, UPS, bad battery, or the circuit feeding the outlet that the pc is
plugged into.
