We have a windows 2000 domain network with several XP computers that are not part of the domain but instead part of the workgroup. From any one of the XP computers, everytime when I open My Network Places and click "View workgroup computers", it generates a invalid name or password message in the Security event log on all the domain computers. Does it mean that its trying to log in to all those domain computers everytime I click "view workgroup computers" ? Is there a setting I can change on the workgroup computer, or is this a domain controller permission issue, or is this just how XP works?

How do the XP Workgroup boxes get their IP addys? I bet
you've got them on the W2K DHCP and DNS but they're not
logged in, still the OS will attempt to parse all network
resources on THAT SEGMEMT regardless of wether they are
logged in. Try setting the workgroup to a di=fferent IP
space by laying in static IP settings. For Internet
access (if required) they can still go to you W2K gateway
and DNS (set manually).
Just a shot... could be it.

The XP workgroup computers have static IPs just like the comuters on the domain. They are all part of the same network.
