Windows 2000 Doesnt reboot on restart

Hi

Im currently working on a laptop and ive found that when i
restart it, it only gets as far as the white windows 2000
screen and then the screen turns black and stays that way.

If i turn it off and then turn it back on again, it boots
up normally. I installed a load of updates from microsoft
but unfortunatly i didnt restart the computer before
applying them so i had no idea if the problem was caused
by one or more of the updates. Ive just completed the
laborious task of removing them all and restarting each
time and its proved fruitless.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know what the problem
is?

The machine is running Win2k SP4.

Thanks

Russ

Does it boot normally in Safe Mode?
If so likely to be a driver problem.
Did you update any drivers?

Hi

Yes, it boots into safe mode. I havent installed any
drivers.

I did a repair process with an old version of Windows 2000
(no service packs) and the computer rebooted normally. I
then reinstalled SP4 and the reboot problem reoccured.

Im going to see if i can find some updated drivers for the
laptop and if i cant, ill try installing SP3.

Cheers

Russ
