I have a client who has around 100 clients running W2K. I
have heard that Microsoft will not be rolling our Service
Packs post 5 and that support for security issues
surrouding IE will become an issue. Am I correct in
assuming that the client will be able to continue to patch
manually and plug holes ?

When Microsoft decides that a certain product has reach a point in its
lifecycle where it is not viable to pursue another Service Pack release
that does not mean that we will not continue to provide full support for
the product, which includes any necessary hotfixes that may apply. Hence,
there is no need to worry about not being able to obtain a security fix /
hotfix while the product is still "alive"
