Windows 2000 and Vista networking

I'm trying to set up a peer-to-peer network with a Vista and Windows 2000
box. They can ping each other, all firewalls are turned off, etc. but they
cannot share files. I know in XP you have to install the LLTD package for
it to work properly but was unable to find anything of the sort for 2000.
Any help is much appreciated.

These both have static IP behind a router?

Actually this is as simple as it gets - a crossover cable between the 2 PCs
and they both have static IPs. Again, I can ping between the 2 machines so
I know it is not a physical or addressing issue.
