OK...I know this may seem stupid and straight forward to
the rest of you, but I've never had to deal with a
network before where the terminals access the server are
more advanced than the server, both in terms of hardware
and OS. I'm running a Windows 2000 server with an Active
Directory setup in it...one forest, one tree, one domain,
one DNS...as simple as Active directory gets. My problem
is this though...my terminals are running XP Pro, and I
can't get the damn things to require either a local
account or a domain account before they'll log on. I'd
be taking domain acocunts as a preference, becuase
everyone should be logging on with those. It'll be the
first time this workplace has had user accounts, so I'm
going to have some user education to perform, but first
I have to get the damn computers to require domain
authentication. I've added them all to the domain, and
the DNS swrver addesses are setup correctly, but the
computers continue to log straight in and then, and only
when, the user tries to access one of the network shares,
does a dialog box pop up asking for a domain username and
password. I know under 2000 Pro is was entirely possible
to have a logon screen at startup of the type where
you're required to enter a username and password before
you can log on, and if you were on a domain there was a
check box where you could select to log on
as 'workstation only', but I'll be damned if I can get
anything other than the Welcome screen in XP.

OK...I know I rambled a bit there, but if someone cares
to read this, please...can you help?

hi,
if you want your users to logon to your windows 2000
domain lets say for example "Domain1" all you have to do
is first create a local account an admin login to the XP
machine and then go to "my computer" and under computer
name add the computer to the domain "Domain1" it will ask
you which user and the computer name and the domain name
add it and make sure that user is present in your active
directory "users". If all done properly you'll get a
message saying Welcome to Domain1. You need to restart the
computer to take the settings.

Now when you restart it will prompt for login and when you
login make sure that "Domain1" is selected if you don't
see domain1 the click on options button to see it and
select it and thats about it.

any problems let me know.

cheers
ankush
