I am using an OS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 and service pack1 I was
using office 2000 and then I upgraded to office 2003. Since the upgrade I get
a message an error has occured with Windows Explorer. And the responce time
is slow. Currently using AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor with 1.8 GHZ and 480 RAM.
Would I need to completly remove Office 2000 before loading Office 2003?

THis is the error I keep getting
can some one determine what is causing this message, and how fix the
problem?? I t seems to refer to Internet Explorer

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset:

- Why Service Pack 1?
If you are at Service Pack 1, are you at least current with all other
patches?
- What about Windows Firewall (or a router box?)
- Antivirus?
- Antispyware applications ran often?
- Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Office 2003?
(You're beyond removing Office 2000 if you already upgraded to 2003.)
- explorer.exe is not Internet Explorer.

Service Pack 1 is what came with the XP program. Is the explorer.exe a part
of the Windows operating system, and if this is not operating properly will
this cause the system to respond slowly? If I unistall Office 2003 what will
happen to all of the files that are currently saved on the HD?
Norton is the firewall and virus program being used. Spyware runs every time
at boot up
I will uninstall Office 2003
THank you for your reply

Yes SP2 has been dowloaded however I still get a message Windows Explorer has
encountered a problem and must shut down. D\Message details are listed below
I send the error report to MS and then a web site opens adn say that they do
not have a fix at this time. Amy suggestions as to what to do at this time?

Can please you post an actual copy of the full error report from Event
Viewer?

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Explorer.exe *is* the Windows operating system, or at the it is the
key component for the user interface to the operating system.

I don't know where you got the error information that you posted in
another response, but it is only part of what is needed. In
particular there should be an "event i.d." item reported for the
error, which is the essential clue to the underlying cause.

If I unistall Office 2003 what will
happen to all of the files that are currently saved on the HD?

If the files are in the same folders as the Office 2003 programs then
they may be deleted. However if you are saving your office documents
in the default "My Documents" folder, or subfolders off of it, then
they should be safe. However some documents created with Office 2003
may not be usable by Office 2000 if they use features or functions
that are not part of Office 2000.

What Spyware program are you using? There are a large number of
different ones, and some are merely mediocre at best and a few are
absolute rogue programs that actually install spyware.

I will uninstall Office 2003

Removing Office 2003 is not something that I would consider important,
at least not at this point in the procedure.

Here is something you can try.

Open the Windows Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Delete together).
Go to the Processes tab.
Click twice on the CPU column header to sort the list into descending
use based on CPU usage.
"System Idle Process", a filler entry to account for the time the
computer has nothing to do, should be at the top of the list with a
90% or higher value.
If not, and especially if Explorer.exe is in the top 5 items for CPU
usage then please make a list of the top 5 items and post that
information back here. High CPU usage by Explorer.exe is a symptom
that is very often associated with a virus/spyware/trojan infestation.

Good luck

Not to complicate DTP's problem, but my system (Dell 2400 dimension, W XP
Home edition, SP2, 128 MB memory, 60GB HDD 15% full/85% empty) always boots
up slowly, switches between applications slowly and runs applications slowly.
I've defragged and keep my anti-virus up to date.

I find that iexplore.exe is always a large user of memory, it sometimes
shows up more than once inTask Manager and system idle process is always a
very small user (16K -not a misprint 16K). Apprreciate any suggestions.
