NOW MY SYSTEM CRASHES 4 TIMES A DAY!
It did not crash before.

I get a message telling me "Unrecognizeable files.
Insert Win XP Service Pack One CD.

Guess what- I DON'T HAVE WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK ONE CD.
I DOWNLOADED THE STUPID SERVICE PACK!!!

I contact Microsoft to fix the stupid problem that
Microsoft caused --
AND MICROSOFT WANTS ME TO PAY FOR SUPPORT!!!

I am pissed off!
I am NOT a satisfied customer.
And I sure as He** am not going to pay
to fix the stupid problem Microsoft caused
in the first place!!!

I have the XP CD that came with my Toshiba Notebook.

What the He** do I do now?

i would try system restore. or look on the service pack 1
web page and maybe it will tell you how to delete it?

I reckon "calm down, Ellis", might be useful advice. All of us here know
what PCs can do for the blood pressure. You have made the first sensible
move by posting your message. If you haven't heard form a MS.MVP in a few
hours, try posting a begging letter!

Sorry I can't help more. I do have a few ideas but I've had no problems with
SP1 and I would probably send you on a wild goose chase.

Good luck,

Ed.

When you update your system in this fashion, you also need to make sure your
drivers and applications are up to date and are compatible with the new
setup as any update of this nature changes the operating environment, also,
any issues you had previously may be exacerbated by installing such update
before diagnosing and dealing with this issues. The information below may
help diagnose the issue.

First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

If your system is clear of viruses, open Control Panel, open System, go to
the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery, remove the
check from "Automatically Restart" under System Failure. This will cause
the system to blue screen instead of restarting on errors and the
information on the blue screen may give a clue as to the source of the
issue.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information
contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the problem.

Assuming you have an XP CD and not a recovery CD, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
the report it generates may point to problem hardware or software on your
system. If you do not have an XP CD, you can download this application
known as the Upgrade Advisor from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
Note: If you have access to a broadband connection it might be best to
download using that as this is a rather large download. Also, note, the
fact your system worked before the update but now crashes does not mean the
hardware and software on your system was compatible. It may have been
borderline and the update might have pushed those products over the line.

Check for the latest drivers for your hardware, especially your graphics
card and soundcard and all peripherals connected to your system. No not use
Windows Update for this, go to the device manufacturer's web sites and if
you install updated drivers, ignore the message about drivers being unsigned
by Microsoft.

Hi, First of ALL, ONLY download patches or updates from
WINDOWS UPDATE and don't let anybody else tells you you
have to download this or that 'You might got yourself a
VIRU*.You have to do a System Restore to date before you
downloaded the update.

Yes of course they do! You have an OEM licence and MS is not obligated to
support you in any way, shape or form. Your support contract is with the
system vendor/builder. Microsoft do not, cannot and will not support
customised OEM licences. This is the way it always has been...

This is an ID-TEN-T error, caused by not following correct procedures. MS
recommend a full backup (or a restore point at the very least). MS cannot be
held responsible if users do not follow advice.

Stop swearing on Usenet, and read link three in my signature to learn how to
post to newsgroups properly and effectively.
