What controls the size of a window when you open an
application? It seems to arbitarily change size every now
and then and is not universal to all applications.

For example, when I currently open Internet Explorer, it
is much too small to use and I have to expand it every
time.

Thanks in advance.

Right click the shortcut then choose properties. You
should now be on the shortcut tab. Locate the Run line and
click the arrow to the far right to reveal the drop down
list and either click Normal window or Maximized. There
are registry settings you can change if this doesn't do
what you want. e:mail me if you need more help for those.
Keep smiling.

Hi

Drag a window to the size that you want it and then close that window by holding down the Ctrl key and then clicking on the X in the top right hand corner.

It is very much up to the individual application, provided it is not
'start minimised' or 'start Maximised'. which you can set by a r-click
on the shortcut (or menu item) and Properties, choose in the 'Run'
drop-down.

Many applications - including Internet Explorer - will remember where
they were at shutdown, and open up the same way. For IE explicitly, it
may need to have the general explorer setting to 'remember each folder's
view settings' checked in FOlder Options - View, but I'm not sure on
that
