Window Settings for Folders on the Desktop Are Not Retained

I am not sure when this started or why, but for some
reason my window settings for folders on the desktop are
no longer being retained. I'm running XP Pro with all
the latest security and recommended updates.

I have a specific folder on my desktop that I want to
open in icon view that keeps changing to detail view and
the location changes. It almost seems to me that it
moves to where "My Documents" would normally open and
takes on the characteristics of that folder. Today I
opened "My Documents" and *it* opened in the position and
took on the characteristics of the special folder. (ie,
icon view and top left of my display)

I do have the default folder view set to detail view but
I have to keep resetting this particular folder back to
icon view.

The Default for Windows XP is to remember the view settings for the 400 most
recently used folders.

yet to have my problem reoccur.
