Window IE Link question

T

Titanl9

Recently I've notice when I click on a desktop link, just before
IE 6.0 opens with the website addess, I get a dialog box stating
that:

"Windows cannot find 'https://address'. Make sure you typed the
name correctly, and then try again.

Almost immediatly the website address opens in IE.

I've deleted the desktop website link mulitple times. Re-opened
that address in IE, which it works fine. Then used "File" send
link to desktop. Clicked on the link and that dialog box keeps
opening again and again.

Any suggestions??? It's annoying.

Thank you in advance,
Ti

Hello,

I would like to confirm the following information about this issue:

1. What is your OS and the IE version? Is the IE 6.0 SP1 or winXP SP2
machine?
2. Does this issue occur on only one link or all links? If it only occurs
on a specific link, please let me know the link and I will try to reproduce
this issue.
3. Please take a screen shot of the error message and send it to
(e-mail address removed) for research.

I understand you can successfully open the IE first and then key in the
link to browse it, I suggest you use the following steps to isolate this
issue:

Step 1: Manually create a shortcut
======================================
1. On the desktop, please right click the mouse to choose New->Shortcut
2. Follow the wizard to create a shortcut and key in the link as
http://www.microsoft.com
3. Double click the shortcut on the desktop, what is the result?

This step we can know this issue lies in the IE or the shortcut. you can
also open the problematic shortcut to check the properties, does the
problematic shortcut contains wrong link?

Step 2: Boot in Safe Mode with Networking
==========================================
If your OS is win2k or above, please reboot the system and pressing F8 to
choose Safe Mode with Networking, are you able to reproduce this issue?

If the issue persists, please help me gather the information I asked and
send the screen shot of the error message, as well as the link you want to
visit to (e-mail address removed) for research.

Any update, let us get in touch!

Best regards,

Rebecca Chen
