Window 2000 can not search, explore, or control panel.

When I tried to go from start to search to find... I get a
blue screen and cp goes back to whatever I was doing. If
I try to rt click on start and go to explore I get the
same blue screen for about 10 seconds and then it goes
back to what I was doing such as a word document.
My computer is missing also. I also can not go to control
panel from start either. Same blue screen and back to
word document. I installed 256 mem and I already have 256
memory.
 
Is the question really. After I installed an additional 256 memory, my
computer restarts the Desktop when I try to use Search or Explore from
the Start menu. If so try removing the "new" memory and see if things
are right again.
