win32 error\ connection stops responding

i have an HP pavillion desktop running windows xp home ed..
Unfortunately it is still on dial-up connection. When I try to connect, it
connects only for about 45 seconds then I get a "win32 error" and tell me
the program has to be terminated. I have to restart the machine to get my
dialup connection to even make another attemp to connect.
Any one got any ideas about this "strange activity"??
 
Do system restore when you were not getting this error and if you this error than also than it is a virus
