Win2K3 deployment strategy

L

Long

We have an office in NY and we're making efforts to move them from a
workgroup to a domain. They're in a rented space so the building already
has an infrastructure in place. My plan is to deploy new WinXP desktops and
a Win2K3 server that will act mainly as the DC and FS. The budget is fairly
small for this so I'm trying to sort out a method that will not require too
much of an investment in additional hardware outside of the desktops/server
combo. That said I do want to this to be secure and unfortunately my
background isn't too strong in routing or subnetting so I'm hoping someone
out there can shed some light on some options I can explore. My main
requirement is that this new LAN must be separated from the one that is
operated in the building (probably possibly by creating a different subnet?)
and I must be able to VPN into it to remotely support users.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Look into a SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) router/firewall appliance. That
will provide the basis for your inbound isolation and protection.

No, but that's because I use the big stuff. You can probably do a Google
search for SOHO router reviews and narrow the field down based on magazine
or Web site reviews.
