Hi all,
I can't boot win2k anymore. I have not made any change
(except an update of antivirus soft) and now I get a
message concerning C:\winnt\boot.ini
then blue screen with another error message (too fast to
read but something about file corruption) and then the PC
restarts on its own ...

I tried F8 to start the safe mode but get the same picture.
I tried the set-up disks: repair function but it says
can't find any hardisk.
Should I try to reinstall win 2k ?

Here are some details:
OS: windows 2000 professional
CPU: Athlon 1200 MHz
RAM: DDR400 1 GHz (2*512).
HHD 1 (with OS): IDE connected through serillel to a
serial connector to MOBO
HHD 2: serial HDD

Thanks in advance for your help,

Bertrand

Try this for starters:

- Format a floppy disk on some other Win2000 PC.
Don't do it on a Win9x PC - it won't work.
- Copy these files from the \i386 folder of your Win2000 CD
to A:\
ntldr
ntdetect.com
- Create a file a:\boot.ini with these lines
[Boot Loader]
Timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect
- Boot the machine with this floppy

Report the result in your next post.

Thanks for your reply,
I made the disk as you said, I'll try this tonight and let
you know how it goes.
