Win2K-WinXP-Win98 networking

P

Phil Armour

I have a mixed wired/wireless network. One laptop (XP)
keeps dropping the connect about every minute. I have
been told that it is because I am using NETBEUI (to allow
Win98 connection). Questions:
1. Any idea why the link is being dropped? I have another
laptop (configured identically by with a different
(Netgear) wireless card) that does not have this problem.
2. Is there an alternative to NETBEUI when I need to
connect Win98?
3. Does WinXP Network wizard work with mixed topologies
(wired/wireless) and OSs (Win2K, WinXP, Win98)?

1. dropping: not sure what you mean drop. If xp doesn't list on my network
places, it is possible master browser issue since you have mixed OS network.
2. NetBEUI: enable netbios over tcp/ip on xp.
