Win2k Unexpected Shutdown During Login

I am having a heck of a time with this system. If I try
to log in normally, I pass authentication but instead of
loading the user profile, the system shuts down. I tried
remotely scanning the drive for viruses, and also running
the blaster fix from symantec, but to no avail. Nothing
was found. I can't uninstall or install anything on the
system because a string of services won't start, and I
can't run a virus scan locally because it fails every
time. If anyone has any suggestions... PLEASE write back
ASAP.
Thanks
