Win2k thinks my DVD-RW is a CD-ROM

Installed my DVD-R/RW 40X Optorite DD1205, all jumpers, cables correct.
It is not on the 'approved hardware' list.
No 'Window drivers' are supplied with this unit, but it comes with Nero
and InCD. It works fine with these programs, so tech support says 'not
our problem'.

Right-clicking on the drive icon-> properties shows 'Manufacturer=
(Standard CD-ROM drives), Driver is MS standard CD-ROM rev. 5.0.2183.1,
date 11/14/1999.

Found an article for WinXT to change the registry from CD-ROM to CD-RW,
but the registry entries are not in my registry (specifically the unique
drive hex address). <http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316529>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD
Burning\Drives
My Win2k ...\explorer folder does not have the 'CD Burner' folder, if I
add one I don't have the Drive address to put in it.

I would like to be able to drag-n-drop files in Explorer, have Partition
Magic etc. be able to make a boot CD. The only programs that can use the
drive are the two that came with it.

How can I force Windows to use the generic CD-RW/DVD-RW Windows driver
for this drive?

Is there a list of 'for these drives use this driver' I can edit?

Windows 2000 does not come with any generic burning stuff.
