Win2k SP3 keeps cashing

P

Phil Roberts

One of our users was shutting down his Win2K SP 3 system
yesterday when the building lost power. Now that the
power is back on his system keeps getting the BSOD
evrytime it boots. The stop error being displayed is
0x00000051. I've searched the KB about this error
condition, and everything I've found says to use the ERD
or install SP4. The original administrator of the system
did not create the ERD, and I can't get the system to stay
up long enough to install SP4. What might I try now
except for reloading Win2K?

TIA

The powerout circumstances are suspcicous, i would look for bad hardware
too.
Download a hard drive diagnostic util from the HDD manufacturer.
And try swapping out various cards/ periphrals (one at a time).

You can TRY sfc /scannow from the command prompt. Have the CD ready.
An in-place reininstall should not be too painful. (do backup personal
files and important data on the HDD first)

In the future, Get a UPS.
