Win2k slow on dell laptop

Hello, I have posted this before and still having problems.

I have a 256 MB RAM, 333 MHz Pentium, dell CPi. Used to
run at normal speed but for the last 6 months it has
slowed down. I have run anti-virus, AVG 6, adaware,
hijackthis and did not find anything unusual i.e., no anti-
virus running in the background or any suspicous programs.
Maybe I am not identifying the right things to remove.

Would appreciate advise on how to bring the
operation/speed of applications back to normal. One
indication that something is still wrong is that the
screen paints in vertical blocks when I shut down.

Have you tried to defrag your drive? Most likely you have
to do it a couple of times before you notice an
improvement. At 256MB Ram there is not much "slack" as far
as memory concerned either. It works but you would see a
great performance improvement just by adding another 256.
The issue you describe could also be a driver issue.
If everything else fails and you don't mind, a complete
rebuild would probably work wonders for you. The garbage
you collect over a couple of months (registry entries you
don't need, dll's you don't need, etc...) can be
significant and is atrocious to delete manually. A clean
sweep is usually the best thing.

I hope that helps.

I have run defrag... still slow. So, you are proposing a
complete rebuild i.e., reformat drive and start all over?
