When I try to access my Windows 2000 server shared files (shared out for
macs), the mac locks up for about a minute and says the remote host stopped
responding. This used to work, I was able to access everything on my server
from any mac. But now I can't access anything and it seems pointless to go
through FTP. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm going to assume you're using a Mac OS 9 or earlier client and not
Mac OS X. If I'm wrong then please post back.

You may have a problem with TCP/IP rather than Appletalk. By default
newer Mac clients browse the network via Appletalk, find the server and
then switch to TCP/IP when actually connecting.

To test whether one protocol is working and the other isn't, do the
following:

1) Test Appletalk - When connecting to the server from the Chooser, hold
down the Option key. This will force an Appletalk connection.

2) Test TCP/IP - When connecting to the server from the Chooser, click
the "Server IP Address" button and enter the server's IP address.

If the first test succeeds, but the second fails then your server is
having problems sharing via TCP/IP to your Mac. It's having problems
with AFP over IP. You may need to uninstall and then reinstall File
Services for Macintosh to correct this.

Hope this helps! bill
