Win2K PRO slow

After booting it seems as if the hard drive is a
continuous state of spinning and if accessing something.
This goes on for hours and slows the system down immensely
as I'm sure you know. Any help would be grateful. Thanks
in advance.

For hours? Has it always done this? Or has this recently started? If so,
what has changed? Two of a few different things that could cause this, both
related to the paging file, is that you are either low on hard disk space,
or your system does not have enough memory to load.

Try the basics... defrag, scandisk, virus scan, disk cleanup, resetting the
swap file.
