win2k is slow to load up

Greetings,

I'm running Win2k sp4 that runs fine except it takes about
1 to 2 minutes to load up. I cannot say for sure if I
recall this problem with sp3. I also have win98se on a
different partition on the same disk with no load up
problems. Anyone with any ideas on how to speed up the
load process. BTW, I have no shutdown issues.

Computer - P-4 2.53, 512 ddr ram, Asus P4PE m/b 533fsb

TIA

1-2 minutes from powerup to login is actually pretty descent.

Some motherboards have a "Quick POST" option, that sometimes helps a bit.
But this only applies to the time before the "loading Windows" screen.
Check in your BIOS.

take a look at the advice about disabling unneccessary services here

http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm

also try running msconfig

(get it here http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Msconfig.htm )

to remove unneccessary items from the startup

finally try ad-aware to remove spyware etc from your pc

Hi,
My C drive is filled up with programs that I do not want to reinstall on
the D drive, which has much space. Could I just move the entire paging file
to the D drive or are there other things to consider in order to keep up the
speed on Win2K Pro , 400 PII, 384MB RAM? The "Resource" book is very
confusing to me on this matter. I have Win2KPro set to "Let Windows
configure the size" or should I have a fixed size with min and max the same?
What size? After moving the "pagefile.sys" off of C, could I or would I need
to delete it from C? I do not want to degrade the performance I now have.
Many thanks in advance!

yes you can move the pagefile to the D: drive, ISTR that the recommended recommendation
for size is 2.5 times actual RAM.
