WIN2K hangs

I

Ian M

I have been running WIN2K SP2 for some time now. I have
an ASUS P4PE M/B with P4 2.4 gig CPU. 512 Mb RAM. The
other day for no apparent reason, everything locked up.
Mouse froze on screen. Ctrl-alt-del did not work. Had to
hard re-boot. Upon reboot, did not recognise my two
HDD's. Opened the case, jiggled connections around,
rebooted OK. Did scan disk, no problems. Did defrag,
OK. Sometime later, same thing happened again, screen and
mouse froze. Hard reboot again. Started OK.

Any ideas? To date, I have never had potentially serious
problems like this since I got rid of WIN98 SE.

HELP!!!!!!

The fact that jiggling the hardware allowed a reboot points
to a hardware component going bad or not properly seated/
connected. You could try removing & reconnecting all the
cables, making sure they're snugly in place.

I had similar symptoms, and the problem turned out to be
a dying hard disk (one of two in a mirror configuration)
that just bit the dust yesterday.
