On win2k sp4 build 2195, ie 6.0.2800.1106,
Adobe Reader 7.0.0 12/14/2004:
1 - I cannot read pdf files.
2 - This is new, I have been able to read
them in them past.
3 - I did a system update a few weeks ago.
4 - A check with ethereal suggests that
the pdf file is being delivered.
5 - I >can< right click -> Save Target As
successfully, and then open the file with
the Adobe reader.
6 - I can read the same pdf files with firefox
on a nearby linux box.
7 - Following advice on other threads, I have:
a - deselected and selected "Display PDF in
browser" in Adobe edit->preferences->
internet.
b - uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe
Reader
8 - The web sites I have seen refer to WinXP,
but not Win2k.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Mike :)

Try the following and see if it will help:

Open Windows Explorer
Find and select any PDF file and right click on it and click on Open with...
If the program you use to read the PDF's in not there, then close the box
With the PDF file still highlighted
Go to Tools> Folder Options-File Types
Scroll down the list until you find the program that should open the PDF and
click it
then click the Change button, scroll down the list to the program you need
and click on it, then click OK and close out. Then try the PDF again.

Both adobe reader and ie are there. If I select adobe, it
opens correctly. If I select ie, nothing happens.
Go to Tools> Folder Options-File Types
Scroll down the list until you find the program that should open the PDF and
click it
then click the Change button, scroll down the list to the program you need
and click on it, then click OK and close out. Then try the PDF again.

If I do this, then clocking on pdf icons will cause the file
to open with ie, which I do not want.

I haven't gone to the suggested locations yet.
Mike.

Do you have a publicly accessible example?
I'm wondering if it might be the MIME type that is the issue.
In any case you could try toggling
Open files based on content, not extension
(Options, Security tab, Miscellaneous section)

Note: I'm not sure but I think that that option may be another one
of the undocumented "requires restart" options so make sure that
iexplore.exe ceases appearing as an active process (e.g. in Task Manager)
before testing your change.

Good luck
