Win2k Fails to Fully Load Suddenly

One of our laptops has just reported an issue with
win2k...the OS fails to fully load. It makes it to the
start screen, then freezes at 11 bars on the bottom,
forcing a cold reboot, with the same results. Any thoughts
or solutions?

This was a working laptop untill about 10 days ago, no new
software or service packs installed.

No security patches, nothing from the Internet possible...

Have you tried using your installation CD booting and run install and choose "R" for repair,
and see if it fixes it.
If that gets you up but doesn't have all cleared up.
Run... SFC /MBR
after run SFC /SCANNOW
after that run CHKDSK /R/F

Check your Event logs and post any unusual findings.
