Win2000 Startup Hang

Out of the blue, Dell Inspiron notebook with Win-2000 Pro
hangs during startup. It gets past the Password, and
Applying user preferences. Then it sits there with a blank
screen and the sand clock for hours. It never really
completes the startup.

I can get in with Safe Mode, and with Debug Mode. But not
with Normal boot mode. Any ideas??

Many thanks.

You may have a driver problem. Did you examine the Event Logger?

I suggest you use msconfig.exe while in Safe Mode
(http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm) to disable all non-
essential startup tasks until you have identified the culprit.
