Win2000 (SP4) - HTTP stops working, HTTPS, POP still OK

This problem is REALLY annoying me now !!

I have seen a similar thread "HTTP doesn't work, but HTTPS does!?"
posted about a year ago BUT with no solution.

Basically I have a P4 running Win2000 SP4 connected to the internet
via ADSL and everything works fine.

However, every so often (2-3 days or even weeks) the HTTP web traffic
stops working !? I have analysed the problem as follows:

1) It is NOT just IE6. Opera and Mozilla AND a network HTTP test tool
fail.
2) Local and/or IP address HTTP traffic fails, so not DNS.
3) HTTPS works fine - weird ?!
4) POP3, SMTP, IM (MSN, Yahoo etc.) work fine.
5) Restart browsers - no effect
6) Disconnect and reconnect ADSL - no effect
7) Log off Win 2000 user and log on again - no effect
8) Restart Windows - SOLVES PROBLEM ... until next time !!

I even bought an ADSL router to replace my USB ADSL device and this
has helped prove it's PC specific because the other PC's on the router
continue to work fine.

It's like the PC suddenly forgets how to route/negotiate HTTP
protocol. But it can't be TCP/IP failing because the other protocols
(HTTPS, POP3 etc.) still work fine.

Please, please help ... this is driving me insane.

Do you have ANYthing running as a task or service that can intercept
traffic? i.e. personal firewall etc. The only reason I ask, is I have seen
this happen on customers boxes, but they had either a personal firewall or
they had a web scanning antivirus running. On stock machines with all the
latest patches etc I haven't ever see this.

I am experiencing the same issue. I installed SP4 and
suddently I can't get to certain websites but email works
fine. Did you ever find a solution to the problem ?
