Win2000 Service Pack 4 Setup error

D

David Fosnight

When updating my Windows 2000 pro system with
the "Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Express Install for end
users" I get the following:

sp4iis.exe - Application Error
"The instruction at "0x01001ee7" referenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read."

This happens at the very end of the update. What do I
need to do so that I can apply this update?

Does this happen with the network (full) installer as well?

Daniel,
I'm not sure what you are asking. I was running the
update from the Windows update site.

Daniel,
How can I remove my original posting with my email
address? I am being bombarded with emails that look like
they are coming from Microsoft and they have viruses in
the attachments. Please HELP!

This will download the whole SP4 installer. Also, check the
WindowsUpdate.LOG and the SVCPack.LOG file (should be in your windows
directory). Open them up and post the last few lines ... that will help
troubleshoot.

Try cancelling the message (Message, Cancel). If it's greyed out, your
program wasn't able to detect that you wrote the message. And yeah, once
it's out there, it's out there.

I'm not certain what's causing this problem. I suspect that there's a
problem with your IIS. Is this your web server?

Daniel,
This is a system we use for maintenance and backup of our
Help Desk database. What is the IIS you are refering
to? By the way, I downloaded SP4 and ran as instructed
and it still failed exactly as before. Any other
suggestions?

Internet Information Server ... it looks like your sp4 is failing on
sp4iis.exe ... *shrug* Just wondering if it was installed on this server.
If you don't need it, maybe remove it, load sp4, then reload IIS?
