win2000 install??

Hello,
I am currently doing a computer course in New
Zealand and have been asked to construct a user manual for
something from micrsoft. I have chosen to do an
installation manual for Win2000. unfortunately i have only
installed 95, 98, and XP so far and am wondering if there
are any Major/minor differences in the installation...

I have searched all over microsoft.com and have come up
with less than nothing, can you help??

Muchly appreciated

I don't plan to do your assignment for you. First thing to do
is to get the Windows 2000 OS and a spare computer. Start the
installation by booting the computer from the Windows 2000
cdrom. Follow the on-screen directions. Not too much diffrent
from installing Windows XP. Write down the install details as
they proceed. And at the end, one installation manual.

Not sure what you're after but to do a clean install, either boot the
Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install disks
can be created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk
directory on the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe
(from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Good for you! Just keep in mind that Windows 2000 is a very
hardware-oriented system and less forgiving than Windows 98
when it comes to hardware issues. And Windows XP is just a
major revision to Windows 2000. See also Dave Patrick's note
to this thread.

Phone MS NZ and ask them if you can have a time-limited evaluation
copy. Tell them you are a student.

Cheers,
