Win2000/2003 Print server - printing across WAN links

We have application printing directed to 70+ remote sites
over leased lines. Since the leased lines go down (not
infrequently) this generates application errors and many
lost man-hours recovering and resending jobs. Would like
to direct the print jobs on the local print servers to
queues on the remote print servers so they will stay in
the local queue until the line comes back up and they can
be delivered to the remote print queue. This was fairly
simple under NT 4.0 but I have yet to figure out how to do
it under 2003.

If I understand what you want to do correctly, you should be able to Add a
"Local Printer" on the Windows 2003 Server that is connected to a printer
(queue) shared from the remote print server. Although your situation is a
bit different, the instructions on the page at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterNoPP.htm show how to add a Local
Printer that is redirected to a printer shared from another computer (a
remote print server in your case). This creates a full printer object on
the Windows 2003 Server that has a name and that can be shared. Then, your
clients can connect to that shared printer.
