Win XP reboot instead of shutdown on power supply

Hello there!

been noticing a weird behavior since some time. My Sony Vaio VGN-BX396VP
won't shut down when it is running on the power supply. If you either select
shut down from the menu, or use the power switch to shut it down, it will
shut down but then immediately restart. It does not do this on the battery
but only the power supply.
I have checked all the obvios control panel settings (e.g. also disabling
the Auto-Restart On System Failure feature) but I can't find
any reason for this behavior.

Please let me know if you are aware of the solution to this problem!

99% of the time that problem relates to a hardware conflict,add anything
new,or maybe something is on its way out....
