Win XP Pro updates duplicated--problem?

Harry Keijzer

I just performed the following updates:
Automatic updates (for which I received a prompt)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB840374)
Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands
(KB828026)

Then, I went to the MS Update site to see if there were
more updates, and downloaded & installed all 4 of them as
well:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB840374)
Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands
(KB828026)
Update for Windows Media Player 9 Series (KB837272)
Update for Windows XP Shop for Musc Online Link (KB833998)

In other words, I accidentally duplicated the KB840374 and
KB828026 updates. Immediately after installation, I got
th following message:
"Windows file protection
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have
been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system
stability, Windows must restore the original versions of
these files.
The network location from which these files should be
copied, C:\WINDOWS\Service Pack Files\i386/controls.man,
is not available.
Contact your system administrator or insert Windows XP
KB83398 source file now."

My questions: Is this message to be expected when you
accidentally install an update twice, and can I therefore
ignore it? (Also, how do I "insert Windows XP KB83398
source file"?) My system rebooted just fine afterward,
although I should mention that the Windows XP Pro startup
screen did act funny, with the Windows XP Pro logo sitting
so far to the left on my screen that only half of it was
visible.

I am new to Windows XP and very confused...

Many thanks in advance for any insights!
